NCAR is a prominent building in Boulder. It sits atop a very large hill visible almost everywhere in Boulder. The backdrop to NCAR is the Flatirons which are a fantastic view in themselves.
NCAR uses tools such as radars and aircrafts to observe and find information about the atmosphere. They use much of this data to see how humans are changing the atmosphere and how humans react to atmospheric changes.
Aside from being a national research center, NCAR is a fun place to visit. It has many interactive computers and toys that mimic weather patterns and the atmosphere. They are very educational for young children and adults as well. NCAR also hosts many events each year including art shows and scientific gatherings. So if you are ever in Boulder, you should definitely take a 5 minute drive up the hill to NCAR to learn more about the atmosphere and get a great view of Boulder while you are at it!
